Lush Kitchen: Washday Greens

I apologize for the lapse in posting, I went on vacation last week and it look me awhile to get back into the swing of things!

I get SUPER excited when the Lush Kitchen comes out with new hair products, and S had said she was interested in trying this shampoo awhile back- So, when it became available, we had to jump on it!

Lush’s description of this shampoo on the website states “A beautiful herbal shampoo with a fresh, minty fragrance. Chlorophyllin helps to balance oil production, fresh bay tones the scalp and garden mint helps to give hair body and lift. Beat the washday blues and wake up sleepy, lifeless hair with Washday Greens.”

Now, I definitely would not call my hair lifeless, it actually has a life of its own, but I figured my scalp could always use the extra help. I’ve been using this shampoo for a couple of washes now, and I feel that my hair looks great!

The scent is very pleasant, with an overall a minty smell but toned down with a bit of earthiness. This shampoo does not create a huge lather, which can be a little disconcerting for me. I like a bit of lather so I feel like it’s actually working. The first time I used it, I did feel that my hair wasn’t completely clean afterwards. That might be from the conditioner I am currently using, which is a little difficult to wash out. It’s not a Lush conditioner, and I will be reviewing it soon as well. So the second time, I washed my hair twice to make sure I didn’t miss anything. A lot of shampoos I’ve tried will leave my hair feeling squeaky clean but with a dry hay-like texture, which this does not give me at all. It seems to be moisturizing and very gentle.

Since using it, I feel my hair is much softer and shinier, which is wonderful! My hair is ombre right now, and the blonder parts have the tendency to look dry and dull, so this shampoo seems to liven up my hair in that sense. I am also working on growing it out, so my hope is that Washday Greens helps my scalp grow healthier and stronger hair.

Overall, I am happy with this shampoo and I wish I had gotten a second bottle!
Have you tried any of Lush’s shampoos? What’s your favorite?

Thanks!!

Lush Fresh Face Mask: Ayesha

photo

I try wearing face masks regularly, and I usually switch between Lush Fresh Face Masks and the peel-off kinds you can get from the grocery story. I especially love Lush’s masks because if you bring back five clean black pots from their store, you get a free face mask! I use a lot of Lush so it works out well.

I have combination skin, oily/dry, and I am prone to breaking out as well. Ayesha is actually for mature skin and is supposed to tighten and brighten your face. Although I wouldn’t classify my skin as mature, but I have noticed that I am starting to get wrinkles around my eyes and more prominent wrinkles on my forehead. Maybe I make weird faces and raise may eyebrows a lot? Not sure.. Either way I decided to try this out, and the results were awesome!

Here’s the description of Ayesha from Lush’s website. “Ayesha is a blend of tightening and toning ingredients to refresh tired-looking skin. We use vitamin C-rich kiwi to brighten dull spots, asparagus to nourish and absorb excess oils and honey for hydrating and soothing red areas. This fresh mask is named after the fictional priestess who discovered the secret to immortality – ten minutes with it on and you’ll see why! Dull, tired and mature skin transforms for a bright, youthful glow.”

It isn’t the best smelling of the Lush masks, but I promise it’s not the worst smelling on either! It’s a murky greenish color with a generally thin consistency apart from the small green chunks that could be from the asparagus. You apply it to a clean face, leave it on for 10 minutes or so, then rinse it off. Some masks offer more results than others, and I feel out of all the masks I’ve tried from Lush, I noticed the effects of Ayesha way more than the others. It really does what it says it will,  my skin feels tighter, smoother, and I feel like it gives me an over all glow, evening out my skin tone.

Even if you don’t have “mature” skin, I really recommend you give this mask a try! It works wonders and perks your face right up!

Have you tried any of Lush’s face masks before? What’s your favorite?

Thanks for checking this out!

M’s August Birchbox!

I’m always looking forward to my next Birchbox, I love the surprise of not knowing what I’m going to get (I don’t peek at the spoilers!) It’s kind of like Christmas except when I was a lot younger I definitely wanted to peek at my presents..After some years of maturing I’ve been able to hold back and enjoy the mystery!

The first item on the list is the Catherine Malandrino Fragrance. When you first sign you are asked how often you’d like to receive perfumes, and you are not allowed to opt out completely. I have a hard time finding a perfume I can wear everyday, maybe because I need a different scent for every mood, or because I get sick of them easily- not quite sure. Anyway, I chose to receive perfume sparingly. I guess I would rather receive skincare and makeup over perfume. Sorry for going off on that tangent. Anyway, the description of this perfume definitely sounds appealing  to me. I am a fan of fruity scents! I liked the scent at first, but as it settled into my skin, I felt like it wasn’t as light and summery as it started out and became heavier and mature smelling on me. The scent also lingers for awhile after, I showered a few hours after and could still smell it on me. What I do like about perfumes is that once scent could smell on way on me and entirely different on somebody else because of our different body chemistry. So, even though this perfume isn’t for me, it could definitely be a good fit for somebody else!

Next up is the Marcelle BB Cream. I am always looking for products to even out my skin tone and make my face look flawless. I’ve tried many different brands from drug stores to department stores, and this one is definitely a great product! It goes on smoothly and provides full coverage. I have splotchy skin and this cream was able to blend in well and give me a flawless and glowing face! This is one of the first product’s I’ve received in my Birchbox that I would consider buying a full size.

The third product I received was Long-Wear Eyeliner from Noir Cosmetics. Back when I was in High School I would wear eyeliner most days, and even through College as well. I don’t know what happened to my eyes since then but they have become super sensitive and the only think that doesn’t bother them is mascara. My eyes will become irritated and turn bright red. I’m not sure if eyeliner and eye-shadow will flake off in tiny chunks and get into my eyes and that’s what causes it, but I end up looking like I’m turning into a vampire from the TV Show The Strain- if you’re not familiar with it, trust me it is not a good look. Despite my vampire eyes, I decided to give this eyeliner a go over the weekend. This is an eyeliner pencil which I feel can be easier to control than liquid eyeliner but lacks the preciseness liquid eyeliner provides. It’s went on dark and opaque in one stroke, not patchy at all and stayed that way too. Luckily I bought eye-drops out with me too, so all in all I think it worked out well!

I received the Happiness Inducing Body Wash from Not Soap, Radio. Here’s another that I would consider buying a full size of! This smell is amazing, like I said earlier, I adore fruity scents and that is exactly what this is! It is crisp, lemony, and I can definitely see how this would put someone in a good mood. It reminds me of a bubbly lemon cocktail in summer time, seriously, how could that not cheer you up? What makes this Shower Gel even better is that the scent sticks with you well after you get out of the shower! I find not many products do that, so to find a scent you love that lingers on your skin as well? That’s just amazing!

The last thing that made me love this product was the description on the back of the bottle, I don’t know about you but I know I definitely wanted to bitch-slap my boyfriend the other morning when I found out he bought whole bean coffee when we don’t have a grinder.. Thank the heavens for this shower gel was able to help me recover from that mood!

Last on the list is SeaRx Birch Sap Moisturizing Lotion.  I am constantly trying different moisturizers to see which gives me the best results. This can be used on the face as well as body but the sample is small so I decided to stick with using it on my face. It has a subtle yet enjoyable grapefruit-y scent to it. I have been alternated between using this before I go to sleep at night, and before I apply my makeup in the morning. I have not noticed and huge changes to my skin since using this product.

All in all it was a good month! My boyfriend was intrigued by the whole idea so we signed him up for a one month subscription to see if he likes it. I’ll let you know how that goes!

Are any of you Birchbox subscribers? Did you get anything you love in your Birchbox this month?

Thanks!!

NCLA!

I was first introduced to NCLA by one of my sisters, E. She had gotten S a couple different nail wraps for her birthday one year and as soon as she opened them up, S, E, our other sister, A, and myself all tried them on! Not sure how S felt about that, but I loved the wraps!

NCLA has a ton of awesome wrap designs and polishes as well, check them out here. What I love about them is that they are constantly coming out with new products, so I never get bored! They also came up with the coolest app ever called myNCLA where you can design your own nail wraps!

I went to a cousin’s wedding this past weekend and wanted fun nails for the occasion. I figured pairing a polish and nail wrap could be the way to go. Anyway, So I went with this glittery polish called Bullion in a Bottle. It is metallic gold with two different sizes of multi colored hex glitter. I’m not usually into gold polish but this one is special, and fun to look at! As for the wraps, I got a set called M.E.O.W. They were a must have for me because I have a small obsession with cats.

Anyway, the polish applied fairly well for a glitter polish, great coverage, two coats, and was just slightly chunky when I applied it- but overall it was an easy formula to work with. Finished them off with Sally Hansen Quick Dry- two coats, and came out with a smooth and glossy finish!

The nail wraps on the other hand were a bit difficult. I prefer to keep my nails relatively short as you might have noticed in some of my earlier posts. Something about the feeling of my nails being longer than my finger tips just gives me the creeps.. This specific wrap just wasn’t going to work for me at my current length so I was unable to wear them. I am working on growing them out a little so I can wear these kitties!

Have you ever tried any of NCLA’s products? What are your thoughts on nail wraps?

Thanks for stopping by!

Glitter Gal: Light as a Feather

Why is it that you can’t find any holo nail polishes anywhere but online?? Maybe it’s just me, but I’ve been looking for a good holographic nail polish for awhile now and had always been eyeing Glitter Gal’s holos. So a couple weeks ago I decided to place an order from Llarowe, they have a bunch of awesome nail polishes from brands all over the world. I ordered this color and a couple other from a different brand that I will be showing you a little later on.

image

Glitter Gal has a plethora of colors to choose from, and many of them are holographic.
It was hard to choose!! But, I really had been interested in this color for awhile because it is so soft and delicate, but then it hits you with the holo!! Online it says to layer this over another color, but I didn’t do that. Now that I think of it, it would have been very nice over white.

It applied well, I only used to coats, then the Sally Hansen Quick Dry Top Coat over it. I had no problem with the formula, it went on like a dream!

The color is seriously beautiful. Not exactly your typical silver holographic which can sometimes be over done because it’s usually the one color they always produce in a holographic collection. It’s a little less intense, dulled down, but still very pretty. It can be distracting when you’re driving on a sunny day, because you just want to look at the mini rainbows on your nails!

This makes me want more holos, how do you feel? Are you into the holo trend?
